Attack of Zachary Quinto's Eyebrows

They mesmerize me. I cannot look away. They are unnatural. They move as one. I watch his character Sylar steal the powers of yet another "Hero" and I find I am strangely ambivalent to their dire fate... distracted... numb....

The eyebrows.

Oh, the eyebrows. Actor Zachary Quinto's eyebrows have seized my attention and sapped my mind.

I am powerless to avert my gaze.

On closer consideration, they are like caterpillars conversing in close tete-a-tete.

And even with a certain amount of man-scaping, they only seem to find follicle solidarity-- to form a thicker, more united front.

Clearly, in his role as Spock, they sent in Stunt Eyebrows. How else would you explain how Mr. Quinto went from this...

To this?...

I know I need to not think about it. When watching Netflix of "Heroes" I should be contemplating the parallels of the plight of superheroes, to real-world racial prejudice...

I should be analyzing the historic similarities of the governmental approach to handling its superheroic citizens to Nazi takeover or Japanese Warcamps...

I should be properly oogling the actor who plays Mohinder.

But alas... the eyebrows. The eyebrows have stolen my better sense.

Resistance is futile.

Wait, that's the Borg, isn't it?...

See, what's happened to me?! Run. Run while you still can!

So you like the bi-brow..but what about a uni-brow? Are you particular?

Jenn Thorson said...

Hussy- He did start out on Heroes with the uni-brow didn't he? I think I wasn't mesmerized as much by the uni-brow for some reason. It's not even so much a question of "like" as "mesmerized." It's like going to see a "Ripley's Believe It or Not?" exhibit for me. :)

Oh, man. I LOVE Zachary Quinto and his eyebrows. ALMOST enough to go see Star Journey or whatever it's called. Actually, I read that he had to shave half his eyebrows off to achieve the "Spock" look, and he was devastated.

Well, wouldn't YOU be?

Jenn Thorson said...

JD- Well, based on what you said, his Star Trekian eyebrows are not half what they used to be. :) You'll likely be disappointed.

His eyebrows do suit his face. It's just it's like seeing Donald Trump's hair. I must make sense of it. I cannot. It's riveting.

Its not just the eyebrows, it is that they seem to reside high atop this ridge that transects his face. Somehow it all contributes to making him look more scary and psycho. Then I have to go to his IMDB.com headshots to remember that he's totally lickable.

ShieldMaiden- See, I think he's handsome-ISH, but I actually prefer the guy who plays Mohinder. I worry about him getting killed or knocked unconscious perpetually, and can root him on. Plus the English accent.

It's just eyebrow hypnotism for me with Sylar. I cannot look away.

ReformingGeek said...

He's an awesome actor but those brows are definitely creepy! I would not want to meet those things in a dark alley at night.

I agree with you on the actor that plays Mohinder. Nice.

Jenn Thorson said...

ReformingGeek- Heh, do you think the eyebrows take in the various cities he travels to with an evening walk? I can see him at dinner, eyebrowless, explaining that the eyebrows needed some fresh air.

Heh, and yes! Another vote for Mohinder! :)

Mohinder is played by Sendhil Ramamurthy - I find south Indian last-names interesting and some how end up instantly memorizing them like Narayanan Panchacharan and Tavaisam Puvalasingam - two fellows I used to know.

Now eyebrows - that I don't notice much, I've big bushy ones myself bit those in the first picture look very odd !

Jaffer- Having worked with a number of folks from south India, I've learned enough of the variations on the names that I'm able to read them more quickly. It's always fun-- and oh, how I'd heard some of my poor coworkers have their names butchered by people not familiar with them. :)

Chamuca said...

I read somewhere that he shaved them for the part.

Apparently, Leonard Nimoy's eventually stopped growing back when he'd shave them.

Unknown said...

Chamuca- I've heard that happen to a lot of ladies who overplucked their eyebrows in the 50s, so I can see where that might be a problem for actors, as well.

Thanks for the comment! :)

Leeuna said...

I agree. The eyebrows are creepy, yeah like caterpillars. Sendhil Ramamurthy? Yummy!

Unknown said...

Leeuna- As Zachary Quinto actually went to the same college I did, but it's probably just as well it wasn't quite at the same time. Any shared classes he'd be wondering why some girl was staring at his eyebrows all the time. :)

The man is gorgeous, eyebrows or no eyebrows.

Jenn Thorson said...

Anonymous- Well let's hope shaving them for Spock won't force him to go the "no eyebrow" route permanently or anything. :) Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Heh heh. Yah, I've always liked Sylar's brows...and Mohinder's nice, but for me the saddest moment of the series was at the end of season one (so no whining about spoilers, eh?) when Sylar cut off Milo (Peter Petrelli) Ventimiglia's forelock.

Unknown said...

Greg- It was probably sad for him, too. He had that whole kinda floppy Keanu Reeves as "Ted" thing going on. Now he has a sort of Keanu Reeves as "Neo" theme working for him. :)

Jeff and Charli Lee said...

Great post. But it took me 3 tries to get through it because his eyebrows kept hypnotizing me and putting me into a trance.

Unknown said...

Jeff- I KNEW I should have led with a non-hypnotic eyebrow-neutral graphic instead! :)

I must say, I love Zachary Quinto, his eyebrows, AND this blog entry. Was directed here by The Junk Drawer's Kathy and it's making my day considerably better. I must tell you, I read in an interveiw that apparently he and his brother Joe (who is similarly brow-riffic) were nicknamed the Brow Brothers. Clearly, this is not the first time they have gained him notariety.

Unknown said...

Alexis- AH! I must have seen a photo of him and his brother then-- it wasn't labeled but I thought, "If that's his stunt double, they look a LOT alike!" You solved a mystery for me. :) And I'm delighted to have made your day better... That makes MY day.

PS- Junk Drawer Kathy is awesome.

Ah, Greg beat me to the forelock comment. Yep, it's either eyebrows or Peter Petrelli's hair.

Have given up on Heroes. I do find Mohinder and Nathan most attractive. Mohinder since he's kind of like the attraction to Wesley from Angel, Dr. Bashir from DS9 and the guy who plays Baltar on the new BSG. I have a tendency.

Jenn Thorson said...

Babs- Oh, gosh, I recall liking Dr. Bashir quite a bit myself-- maybe there's something to your theory! :)

what on earth are you people talking about? his eyebrows are perfect the way they are. he is incredibly sexy naturally. and his eyebrows have a natural arch. he is the sexiest man alive!

Ann Imig said...

So funny.

And yet, so hypnotic. I agree.

Anonymous- I appreciate your passion. I also appreciate you are one of the few Anonymii that have stopped by, who isn't a robot-generated spam. For that, I thank you in particular.

Ann- It's actually funny how many people DO seem to Google for info on Mr. Quinto's eyebrows.

Youlin said...

Was googling Mr. Quinto's eyebrows when I saw this. Love this post--had me in stitches. Especially the caterpillars.

You're a really funny person. Thank you for making me laugh!

Unknown said...

Youlin- Heh, thank you, and thanks for the comment. It's the hypnotic nature of the eyebrows that cause folks to feel compelled to Google them. :)

Unfortunately, it sounds like Heroes has been canceled, so now Mr. Quinto and his eyebrows will have to live on in some other program in the future.

GreenViolin (Youlin) said...

Well there's still Margin Call, and unfortunately his brows will be shaved off again in the Star Trek sequel.

In the mean time we can still google pics of his eyebrows!

Actually, I heard him interviewed about it and he shaved his eyebrows for the part. I'm not kiddingl
